Marcel 945 Madison is a new restaurant located within Sotheby's New York headquarters at 945 Madison Avenue, occupying the lower level of Marcel Breuer's iconic 1966 Brutalist building. Developed in partnership with Roman and Williams, the restaurant forms an integral part of Sotheby's transformation of the former Whitney Museum into a new center for art, design, and culture.
The design responds to Breuer's architecture through a deliberate contrast of monumental concrete surfaces with warm walnut paneling, burnished metals, custom furnishings, and handcrafted lighting. The restaurant includes a main dining room, bar, private dining room, patisserie, and access to the building's original sculpture garden, which has been reimagined as an extension of the dining experience.
Marcel brings together dining, art, and commerce, with rotating works from Sotheby's collection displayed throughout the restaurant and available for acquisition.
